Welcome to Hedgehogs Class
Our recent trip to Birdland and Cave painting!
Welcome to Hedgehogs Class! Here are few helpful reminders and some information about what’s happening this term.
Please could your child leave their PE kit (blue or white shorts and T-shirt, trainers, and jogging bottoms for in the colder weather), a pair of indoor shoes and a pair of wellies in school during the week. The children will have PE on Wednesdays and Fridays and it helps on those days if they can wear clothes they can change themselves. They will also need to bring a coat with them every day as we often go for walks and go outside for play.
Your child needs to bring a water bottle (containing water only please) into school every day as we encourage them to help themselves to a drink of water. Water bottles are available from the school office.
The children are provided with a portion of free fruit or vegetables every morning for snack time. The children are also allowed to bring in their own fruit or vegetable snack if you would like them to. Please ensure your child is also registered with www.coolmilk.com if you wish your child to receive milk at school. This is free for children under 5.
Reception children will soon receive a story sack and a picture book. Please see separate letter for more information. Year 1 children will find a reading book in their bags this week. We will be doing ‘show and share’ once a week this term and will let your child know when it is their turn to bring something in to talk about. Look out for a letter in your child’s book bag. It is always appreciated if this item is related to our Learning Theme.
This year the Year 1’s will be introduced to homework through a short, weekly maths or literacy activity. This will be given out on a Wednesday and should be returned to school on a Monday. The homework will be stuck into a homework book. In Term 2 we will have a ‘pick and mix’ style homework. In addition to this the Year 1 children will be taking home spellings to learn each week. To try to ensure that children are applying their knowledge of spelling patterns and rules up to 5 spellings will be given to learn, but they will be tested on 3 additional spellings that follow the same phonics/spelling rule. A spelling ‘check-up’ will be done on a Friday.
Finally please could you make sure all their clothes and belongings are named. Most school uniform looks alike and it helps to reunite lost items with owners!
Please read the school newsletter carefully each week as it contains important information and letters as well as what we are working on each week. Also look out for our termly skills map which will tell you what we are working on each term in each learning area. These will give you an idea of how you can help your child at home. School information and newsletters will be emailed to you unless you have requested otherwise at the office.
If there is anything you would like to discuss please feel free to come and talk to us. We are often busy first thing in the morning when all the children are arriving and so after school is the best time to catch us for a chat.
