About our School
Introduction
Lea & Garsdon Church of England Primary School is situated on the edge of the village of Lea serving the parishes of Lea, Garsdon, Charlton and Cleverton. Children from the Malmesbury area are brought to school by bus. There are approximately 120 children attending the school at present.
The original Victorian building now houses the library, staff room and ancillary spaces. The rest of the attached building is the KS2 area, with 4 classrooms (only two are being occupied at the moment) and office areas. The new KS1 block was opened in September 2022 and houses the new hall, kitchen, three classrooms and SENco room. Outside there are two playgrounds, one for each keystage but at lunchtime, the children are brought together for their outdoor play. There is a wonderful sensory garden for quiet times and a large football/games field beyond the new KS1 building.
At the present time, the classes are organised into five groups. The class size in this kind of school has to be flexible as the number of children in each year group varies considerably from year to year. At the moment, our KS1 classes are in small, single year groups to enable the children to get the best start possible. Our KS2 classes are organised in mixed ages, where more than one school year are taught together.
The School Day
Our current school day timings are as follows:
- School starts at 8.50am, lunchtime starts at 12.00noon and runs until 1.00 pm and the school days ends at 3.05pm;
At lunchtime, the hall is used as the dining room. Children eat either school meals which are freshly prepared each day by Aspens Services or their own packed lunch. The lunch times are well supervised by adults.
